Eurostar Reviews & Ratings: Is It the Right Train for You?
Connecting the UK to mainland Europe via the Channel Tunnel, the Eurostar is a masterpiece of modern international transport. Operating high-speed routes from London St Pancras International to major hubs like Paris, Brussels, and Amsterdam, the train dashes through the French countryside at an exhilarating 186 mph (300 km/h).
For travelers in 2026, Eurostar has introduced a newly rebranded, streamlined class system: Standard, Plus, and Premier. Beating the airlines on city-center convenience, carbon footprint, and incredibly generous luggage allowances, Eurostar remains the undisputed king of cross-Channel travel.
Eurostar at a Glance

Onboard Experience: What to Expect
Following the recent class rebranding, the Eurostar experience is sharply divided by the level of service and flexibility you require.
Eurostar Standard
The highly efficient economy option. Standard features comfortable, airline-style seating with access to UK and European power sockets and free Wi-Fi. The ticket allows standard ticket exchanges (fees apply). Standard passengers do not receive complimentary food but can visit the Café Métropole car to purchase hot drinks, pastries, and light meals.
Eurostar Plus
The middle tier (replacing Standard Premier). Plus offers wider, more spacious seating in a quieter 2-1 layout. The major benefit is the complimentary light meal and drinks served directly to your seat, alongside greater ticket flexibility for changes and refunds.
Eurostar Premier
The ultimate VIP cross-Channel experience (replacing Business Premier). Premier passengers enjoy the spacious 2-1 seating, fully flexible tickets, and access to the exclusive Eurostar business lounges before departure (complete with cocktail bars). On board, a multi-course gourmet meal designed by Michelin-starred chef Raymond Blanc is served with premium champagne and fine wines.
Luggage Allowance & Policies (Updated 2026)
Major 2026 Warning: Eurostar offers arguably the best luggage policy of any international carrier. There are no weight limits, provided you can safely lift the bags onto the train yourself.
| Luggage Size / Type | Policy | Cost |
| Standard & Plus Ticket | 2 large bags (up to 85cm long) + 1 small piece of hand luggage. | Free |
| Premier Ticket | 3 large bags (up to 85cm long) + 1 small piece of hand luggage. | Free |
| Liquids | No volume limits! You can bring full-size toiletries, wine, or champagne. | Free |
Tip: Because there are no liquid limits at Eurostar security, you can safely pack a few bottles of French wine or Belgian beer in your bag to bring back home.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About the Eurostar
How early do I need to arrive at the station?
Eurostar operates like an airport, not a domestic train. You must pass through security, UK exit checks, and French/Schengen passport control before boarding. In 2026, it is highly recommended to arrive at least 60 to 90 minutes before your departure time (unless you hold a Premier ticket, which grants you fast-track access).
Can I take my bicycle on the Eurostar?
Yes, but rules apply. If your bike is fully dismantled and packed in a protective box/bag (max 135cm x 85cm x 30cm), it counts as one of your large pieces of luggage. If you want to travel with a fully assembled bike, you must use Eurostar’s Registered Luggage Service and pay a fee, which is currently only available on the London to Brussels route.
What happens if I miss my train?
Unlike domestic rail where you can just hop on the next train, Eurostar tickets are tied to a specific train and seat. If you miss your train due to your own delay, your ticket is voided, and you must purchase a new one. However, if your delay is caused by a connecting National Rail train, Eurostar staff will usually accommodate you on the next available service free of charge under the CIV international rail rules.
